Liwa to the Edge of UAE

Hi everyone
I am not going to give you a full report but I will give you flashes of thoughts in my mind during this whole trip.
1. Who needs enemies when you have friends like this:dark mood: : While we were driving back at the last stretch the leading marshal found a nice open area for rally style so they drove away without double checking with me “ The Sweeper “ by the time I realized that there something wrong I only was able to see them as small objects. In our rules code of the convoy " We will never leave anybody behind " but they might abound a marshal because he knows how to find his way back unless he/she ask for “HELP”.
2. My passenger decided to bring half dozen of eggs to have it for dinner or breakfast so I had to deal with it and keep it in my car for the whole day without breaking an egg. I think I broke a new record by driving 195 kms. and brining the 6 sisters back safe & sound:brigade.baka-wolf.c.
3. “ Ok guys, let us go to the jail “ :scared: how would you feel when your leading marshal say that on the public channel and you know that jail is the maximum security jail in the country. Of course you will feel the chill at the back of your spin but the good news that we visited it with safe distanceJ. The funny thing that when we reached there Delta83 said “ I can see a group of Ghazals running away on the other direction of the jail” I said “ I hope they are not convicts because if they are fugitives so defiantly they will be running like ghazals :secret laugh:.
4. When we reached the border I saw a funny looking tower which I never seen before and when we reached it we found that it was a camera tower and they whole side is full of them. The moral of this point “If you want to go for nature call, you better keep it until you go very far away otherwise you might be famous on YOUTUBE “.
5. We saw a group of WHITE ghazals which was something new because we usually see them in brown. I guess Delta83 was right and he saw ghazals not fugitives.
6. We had an amazing camp over this weekend because we were not in hurry at all, So we had proper dinner & breakfast with coffee and other delicious food that everyone brought.
Oh yes “We did reach the corner of UAE and it is very far “.
P.S do you remember the 6 eggs I mentioned on the second point, they were not safe at dinner because I had them

Well, an amazing weekend...for sure!!!
Since the beginning it was clear that going to the camping point we were going in the middle of nowhere, km after km the civilization was more and more rare. After 4 hours drive we reached finallly our destination, where really the night is so dark at the point you can see the Milky Way so clearly..... must try to believe it!!
About the drive.
Day one was a very long day, we drove 198km towards Saudi border and back, the dunes were not so big but the sand so tricky, as expected in some area the softness of the sand was extreme, actually the difficulty of day one was not really the configuration of the terrain but the consistency of the sand, honestly I've never faced such a soft sand.
Nevertheless no one got stuck, this is the first big achievement, guys you did an amazing job!!!
On the way back the track was very fast, for many km the pace was between 80 to 100 km/h but this do not mean it was easy, even were it seems to be flat you have to watch out carefully, even a small ditch or a small jump can be fatal.
We reached the road after 5pm, just before sunset.
Day two started late due to the fog, we were able to leave the camp only after 10am and due also to some problem to Delta's car we decided to change our plans.
We played in the area and came back same point after about 3 hours, during this time everything happened. We had leisure time for a nice brunch on the top of a big dune, play time with sandboard and......yes, breathtaking moments!!!.....last part of the drive was not advance level (sorry Bu Salem:011:), it was extreme level (thanks a lot for that :008:), and thanks a lot to our drivers, you did a stunning job guys!
About camping.....I could write a thread only for the camping...but I tell you only that we had tons and tons of very good time and Fida's lamb chops were included.
A big thanks to Bu Salem for supporting me in this trip and for the awesome leading in day 2, a big thanks to Fida and Imran, always nice to have you around and special thanks for the lamb chops, you are the king of bbq. a big thanks to Armin, buddy, you are simply amazing, I cannot imagine the Club without you!!!, a big thanks to Delta, very nice to see you back after long time, man you have to come more often, we miss you mate! ... another big thanks to Zorro, you are a person of few words, but when you have a steering wheel in your hands ..... than we are speechless!:060:
Last but not least, a big thanks also to [MENTION=3332]Nana[/MENTION] for join us in this adventure.

Good Morning Al
After packing up following a camp, writing a trip report is the second thing I least like to do. So lets try to make it more fun and get over with it. Let me put on bullet point a few interesting things about this drive that i believe are worth sharing and what i learned in these 2 days:
The scope of day 1 was to explore the unexplored, and see what kind of dunes the South-West part of UAE has. The area is not like Hameem or similar, where you have bowls and high dunes, it is more like Faqa but in a bigger scale, with huge flat areas. At the end of day 1 we approximately drove about 200Kms, with no major issues, which to me looks like a great accomplishment. Great job Yoghy!
Day 2, after yet a fun camp, it was decided to drive from camp, which is somewhere, for a couple of hours and then drive back to the same somewhere of the camp, where unfortunately Delta’s car was waiting due to a leak problem. I’m saying somewhere as Yoghy had my GPS and I had no clue, on both days where we were, and where we were going :-/ Still it was a lot of fun, especially the last bit where Bu Salem kept his word of "i'll go straight" and went through awesome crazy bowls
Now I’ll thank all who came, as I ran out of things to say. If Dave was there, his report would probably be a 10,000 words essay! ….We love your reports Dave!

- The first being, that camping can actually be good fun, especially when around nice people, who also prepare delicious food! Although, guys, we’ve got to stop talking about certain topics when we eat! Especially about Armin’s shy friend!! :-P
- Secondly, on day 1, once we reached Saudi South-West border, I got to know that roaming in Saudi isn’t that expensive as Europe. Calls are about 1 aed/min. Not that bad
- Third and very important, is that on fast rally tracks in Liwa you can find green tiny poles in the middle of the tracks…..poles which I almost hit twice as Armin, Fida & myself were driving side by side behind Yoghy on the last stretch of day 1. Not a very good thing now that I think about it, always follow the leading car guys!!
- 4th but of crucial relevance, Fida is the undisputed King of lamb chops. Mmmmmmmmmmhhh, sooo tasty!!!!
- If Bu Salem tells you “we are going to drive straight line” don’t mistake him for easy, straight isn’t easy, as also the dictionary will tell you!

i dont think much left to say about this trip, it is simply Almost 4x4 family combined with Liwa... cant get any better :D
here is my report...
i guess i was the only leaving late from home, hit the road to liwa around 8 pm... i reached the supposed camp location around 11 40 pm... and guess what didnt find anybody... so i did couple rounds until i spoted the camp fire and Fida's car back light ( thanks for that :D)
day 1 camp was late, we all went to bed around 1: 30 am ( this is explain the camp good mood and food , no one wants to sleep hehe)
next day drive as the guys mentioned, was about exploring and reaching the UAE edge, and we did :ninja: !! and glad Jail people didnt follow us hehehe
unfortunately one radiator hose broke down in my patrol, but with the help of all the team specially Bu Salem ( crawling on top of a hot engine :D) and Yoghy / Zorro for supplying duct tape, we manage to get it patch up and finish the long day trip
day 2 camp was awesome, every one relaxed, no rush , but all the team was tired after the ~ 200 Km drive, at 11 pm we were all set in our tents ( which is still some mystery for some how do i fit in my tiny tent hehehe.... and there is a reason behind getting a small tent ;) LOL)
woke up around 7 am, cant see faraway then couple meters, heavy fog, nice weather, breakfast , friends, we waited until 10 am to start,
unlucky the Patrol still leaked water and we decided to park it near the road, better to be safe and save the engine rather than burning it in Liwa , it was a wise choice as the alternative was passenger seat.... guess where.... with the undisputed leader in Liwa .... famous Bu Salem ( as we both drive Patrol ;) ) ....
man what an experience .... hat off for the most fearless offroader .... i cant explain it in worlds... most of advance drivers we dont have fears or we reduce and eliminate alot of them, but leading in Liwa is a totally different level , at some point the Patrol was acting like a dune buggy to climb over the walls, jump, crest, side slop, drop.... what ever you can name we did on day 2 drive, at the beginning of day 2 we played for around 10 min in the same dune ( so you can imagine how big and huge Liwa dunes are)
all drivers did very well , we had our share of fun with some dune sliding , am sure some videos will pop out soon :D
around 3 pm we head back to my lonely patrol and we set off back home,
thanks for Bu Salem for staying with me as we got the patrol repaired with a new Hose ,
thanks for Almost 4x4 family for arranging these wonderful trips and for the great company ,
thanks for all members who joined, marshal and founders , you guys rocks
will be waiting for Fida's video , it will explain the adrenaline rush we had on day 2
see you all hopefully in the sand soon :D

I have no words to express it clearly is a wonderful trip, I thank you very much to have this opportunity and enjoy with us together, that all the stars, the delicious BBQ，�� and until now still stay in my mind of crazy, stimulate the driving in the desert, the more interesting things from the Shamsi board, very happy i was play it ....

Thank you @alshamsi_m, @Yoghybear, @Zorro and @delta83 for your great trip reports. As @Arminjune's report is still under construction I am guessing it will be more impressive than the Burj Khalifa once finished!
Yoghy states Zorro is a man of few words but the Liwa experience must have changed this as Zorro's trip report is the longest of all! But you still leave us speachless behind the wheel! Sorry to hear one of the cars sprung a water leak. I may be bias in expressing my surprise that it was the mighty Patrol that suffered the problem but was not at all surprised to hear a fellow Patrol driver stayed behind to wait for it to be repaired!
In fact as much I was jealous to miss this opportunity to visit Liwa I was equally sad to miss driving with such a great bunch of Marshals and Advanced drivers. It would have been a fantastic opportunity to both explore this part of the UAE for the first time and also learn from watching this fantastic bunch of guys make child's play of the extreme terrain. These opportunities don't pop up every day and I just hope those of us unable to make this trip can look forward to another before the winter season ends.
